Emotion Controlling to Negotiate Effectively ImageWhen negotiating, do you let emotions get in the way of your goals? During the negotiations, most people experience different emotions. The way you control your emotions have a major influence on the progress and outcome of the negotiation.

To get a greater sense of how to control emotions during the negotiations, keep the following thoughts in mind.

#1. Before the negotiations, consider what could possibly lead you to become emotionally and mentally prepare for such situations. Consider a possible recourse you may adopt to keep the emotional control. Assess other negotiators to determine what may cause him to become emotionally unglued.

#2. Validate the emotions: Every time you incur an emotion, validate its purpose. Try to uncover whether the emotion is real or contrived. This may be described as genuine, while hiding behind a mask of deceit in order to provoke a calculated reaction in you. If you suspect such a trick is being used, consider displaying no emotion in return. By doing so, the perpetrator can have doubt cast upon their actions which in turn can give them cause to reflect upon whether their trick is being met with success.

#3. Control the emotions: You must control your emotions and try to do so of the other negotiator. To control the other negotiator’s emotions, you must have a strong sense of what might lead them to one action versus another. #4. Display appropriate emotion for the environment: emotions you extude must be aligned with the outcome you looking for from the negotiation. So the proper mannerisms, connected with the appropriate emotions will lend cohesiveness to your position.

#5. The body language and emotion: as you progress through negotiations, monitor the alliance that a displayed emotions has with a person’s body language. Even if an emotion is genuine, you must not give credence to it. You can choose to ignore it if it does not serve your purpose of moving the negotiation towards a positive result.

Regardless of how you react to the emotions during a negotiation if you are aware of the role they play and adjust to them accordingly, you will have a greater control of the egotiation and in the process be more successful and everything will be right with the world.

Here are some tips :

1. Always aware to control your emotions during the negotiations. A loss of control can lead you to think irrationally, and adopt actions that you may otherwise avoid.

2. To the degree there is congruity in your words and emotions, your emotions will possess more credibility.

3. When the other negotiator’s emotion is not aligned with their body language, you may consider pointing out this observation. Your efforts will change their facade.
