Brochuriffic Printing

July 28th, 2011

Brochuriffic Printing ImageTradeshow, real estate listing, data sheet, new product promotions and the likes will never be complete without promoting them via brochures. Perhaps, brochure has its own way of wowing the public and persuading them to participate, purchase or subscribe.

But the most bothersome aspect is the budget. How will you make your brochures look terrific yet inexpensive?

There are various brochure printing processes available these days. The first is the two-color brochure printing. As the name implies, it only uses two colors. Most often it comes in black and white or a monochrome of a color. This is the cheapest kind of printing process for brochures. However, this may not be applicable to all designs. Some may appear classic, some may appear dull and lifeless.

Another process is the 4 color brochures printing. Most of the catchy brochures we have these days are printed in this process. 4 color brochures printing uses CMYK colors. These are cyan, magenta, yellow and black. These colors are used to create other colors that will complement the colors in your design. There are computer software programs that convert any text or image to CMYK. In this manner, it will be easy for the printers to work on your brochure printing needs.

Colors can be a little tricky especially when you see them on your computer monitor.  Computer screens use RGB color. Red, green and red colors will result to different colors than those created through the CMYK process. In fact, if you print your brochure on an inkjet or laser printer, the result will be far different from that printed through 4 color printing.

One of the main highlights why lots of people are choosing 4 color printing is that the inking or mixing process is computer-controlled. Moreover, they are getting consistent colors all throughout the printing job. Plus they are getting it at a competent price. These are probably the reasons why 4 color brochure printing is the most popular choice among savvy entrepreneurs.

6 color printing is also a good choice. This process uses 6 colors to create more colors than the usual printing process. The drawback though is that this process may not be good to your resources.

If you want an exact color match for your brochures, go for pantone colors. Colors are meticulously mixed in order to come up with the exact color. Thousands of colors are available through pantone. There are books showing them. All you have to do is to choose from them.  Let your imagination soar, chances are the colors in your mind can be achieved through pantone. The drawback though is that it is costly.

Now you have choices. It’s up to you how you can optimize them.

Jewelry Photography for Your Business

May 17th, 2011

Jewelry Photography for Your Business ImageNot every jewelry photos are created equal. There are many ways to photograph a jewelry and just like everything else, a method produce better result than the others.

Batch Shooting

This kind of jewelry photography is the most favorite of the manufacturers, the target being speed and efficiency. This method leads to a reasonably decent picture of each piece just to see what it is, making a photographic copy of the real thing for manufacturers to show to the experienced retailers.

By “batch firing” only a lighting setup is used no matter the size or the color of the jewelry. The setup consists of a “hot box” and 2 or 3 lights and a point and shoot camera on a tripod. A “hot box” is usually a six-sided box made of white silk with an opening at one end for the lens of the camera. The actual lamp used is anything from photographic strobes to table lamps that are pointed at two sides of the box, sometimes at the top of the box. The jewelry is placed in the middle of the box. If necessary, the piece of jewelry is held in place with bee’s wax or hot glue.

“Click” – the photo is taken. The piece is removed from the box and quickly replaced with the next piece. Click. Then click the next piece, then click again, and so on. By this method, a hundred photos can easily be taken in one day. There is no retouching or any  color correcting. The raw images from the camera will be the final photoes. You can see any photoes of this kind on eBay and other auction sites.

Shooting for retail Web and Catalogs

To make this kind of jewelry photograph more time and care are needed. There is a general lighting setup that can be anything the photographer decides to use with the kind of jewelry and the background being photographed. This basic lighting can be adjusted for each jewelry piece. A professional camera with interchangeable lenses are used. Photographers will turn and the angle the piece in the light until the “sweet spot” is found. The angle that presents the jewelry at its best, such the stones can look alive, the colors vibrant, and all its attributes are clearly displayed. The photographers then can enhance the beauty of the piece by additional any lights or simply placing white or black show cards at just the right angle. This type of care is taken with each piece, there is no assembly line shooting. The different background, colors, textures are used, with or without shadows and sometimes the reflections are also needed.

After the jewelry has already photographed, then each photoes will get a color-correction and be retouched, so that the pieces can be seen at its best, as if the potential customers will hold it in hand. The background is also replaced, usually with pure white, but often with colors.

Shooting for print ads

Even more care taken with the jewelry is that photograph will be published in print. Very high end professional cameras and lenses are used. More time is taken to light and photograph each piece and more staff are involved – the lighting and camera assistant as well as photography coordinators. Sometimes props are used to improve the effect of the presentation or to establish a theme related to the jewelry Color correction, retouching, and even artwork or digital imaging perhaps be incorporated.
